The rubber-soled pioneers that put the ‘squeak’ in basketball have been an off-the-court favorite of rock stars and rebels for the past 60 years. And now, not only we can design our own pair selecting between a variety of custom combination and patterns, but we can even choose to make them glow in the dark. I'm sure it won't take long before we see these on the dancefloor.

ROYAL AIR
The brand new Nike Air Royal Mid SO is one of the classiest sneaker we've seen in a long time. With regal lineage, this sneaker lives up to its lofty name. There’s Air Max comfort, a unique Stitched Outsole that bonds the upper with the crepe rubber sole and a premium finish that showcases the shoe’s simple (but stylish) aesthetic. The three available colorways—Beachtree, Cool Grey and Black—have bright color pops in the soles, too. Air-Sole units in the heel and a perforated suede upper deliver comfort, breathability and a quick reminder that the Air Royal is part of a very special family..

BLAZING THE TRAIL
Retro futurism. That's what the Nike Blazer Mid AB is all about.
No swoosh, a nice thick rubber cap and a comfy side zipper for the lazy ones, that's how such a radically old school model got its contemporary fashion twist.

MOCCASIN LOVER
The Always entertaining Nowness platform brought us The Shoe, a little masterpiece of photoghrapy and music directed by André Saraiva. The French cultural provocateur collaborated with luxury footwear brand J.M. Weston for his debut as director, in which actor Leo Fitzpatrick plays a guileless thief whose material weaknesses trigger karmic repercussions. “The shoe thing was a reference to when I was a kid in the 80s; people used to steal expensive cool loafers,” Saraiva explains. “In America they used to steal your Air Jordans; in France they would steal J.M. Westons”.
For the soundtrack, Kitsuné chief Gildas Loaëc curated an indie setlist featuring The Virgins, Is Tropical and Vandaveer, among others.

CANDY SHOES
Collaborations are always a cool thing, and the crazier they are the sweeter it gets. That's the case of danish sneaker company Hummel teaming up with german candy maker Haribo for a three high top sneakers collection. It pays homage to three of the most iconic candies to come from the brand – ‘Rotella’ licorice rolls, ‘Piratos’ licorice and of course the world famous ‘Gummy Bears’.

SNEAKERS WONDERLAND
One of the most appreciated footwear by street dancer in the nintees is now back in a two limited edition colorways inspired by The Adventures Of Alice In Wonderland. White Rabbit's clock gearings, Queen Of Hearts' killer roses and Mad Hatter's chessboard melts all togheter in a flashy baroque pattern which makes these Reebok City Jam a nice psichedelic entry on your collection.

THESE PUMPS ARE MADE FOR PLAYING
(...but that's not what they'll do...)
The mighty collaboration between Reebok and Packer Shoes bring the much-loved Court Victory Pump back as part of the "Grand Slam Pack", which features one model for each of the four major opens.
The hottest are without a doubt the ones inspired by the French Open. Playing on Roland Garros' slippery clay courts is a bit like like going to Vietnam, and these pumps show it clearly.

REACH FOR THE STARS
The Startech is here again. One of the most unforgivable shoe worn by Nba supertstars in the mid 80's is back in production after 22 years.

To realise how some people could freak out about it, just think about this: last year Converse did a collaboration with Sak, and japanese master craftsman Ryusaku Hiruma designed an immaculate pack of Converse Star Tech hightops, their premium leather construction, fetching $600 for the mere 64 pairs of each colorway, and they went sold out in seconds. Sometimes retro fashion going mainstream is a good thing. You can now have them in the three colors shown underneath directly from Converse.

SHOEGLASSES
Sébastien Tellier is currently putting the finishing touches to his forthcoming album in Paris with a bit of help from Mr. Flash.
True to form, expect Sébastien to follow his own trends in timeless musical fashion. As usual, he has an idea to go with the record. Here's a clue: it's blue, like these sneakers!

SHOE WARS 2011

BACK TO THE PRESENT

Parlando di scarpe e di Vietnam potrei non tirare fuori These Boots Are Made For Walking della divina Nancy Sinatra? No, non potrei.

HIGH SKUNKS
Ciò nonostante andranno sicuramente a ruba.
