The Fibonacci sequence is named after Leonardo of Pisa, aka Fibonacci, although the sequence had been described earlier in Indian mathematics in connection with Sanskrit prosody.
In the West, the Fibonacci sequence first appears in the book Liber Abaci (1202), where Fibonacci considers the growth of an idealized and biologically unrealistic rabbit population, assuming that: a newly born pair of rabbits, one male, one female, are put in a field; rabbits are able to mate at the age of one month so that at the end of its second month a female can produce another pair of rabbits; rabbits never die and a mating pair always produces one new pair (one male, one female) every month from the second month on. The puzzle that Fibonacci posed was: how many pairs will there be in one year?
At the end of the each month, the number of pairs of rabbits is equal to the number of new pairs plus the number of pairs alive last month. This is the Fibonacci sequence, which is intimately connected with the golden ratio.
Applications include computer algorithms such as the Fibonacci search technique and the Fibonacci heap data structure, and graphs called Fibonacci cubes. They also appear in biological settings,such as branching in trees, Phyllotaxis (the arrangement of leaves on a stem), the fruit spouts of a pineapple, the flowering of artichoke, an uncurling fern and the arrangement of a pine cone.

No matter how hard people try nowadays to make forward leaps in technologically enhanced audio-visual art, so many creators miss something.
This film has that something: aesthetic value and pleasing qualities. Call me old-fashioned but I get so agitated by art that is 100% experimental with no regard for the human hearts that are witnessing it.

CONCRETE CHANNELS

An action movie can't be labeled as a proper one without featuring at least one breath taking chase sequence.

One of my all time favourite is from Terminator 2: Judgment Day. John Connor gets on his furious 125cc and starts the run from the Trucker-1000, and then the gov'nor decides to spice it up by jumping in the mayhem via his chopper and shotgun giving to the spectator that overwhelming feeling called adrenaline rush.

Today, thanks to oddballanimations, we go back into the good old flood control channels, this time with more horse power and in a computer generated post-apocalyptic world. Fasten your seatbelts.

WONDERSOUND

Nick Bertke, better known as Pogo, records sounds from his favourite games and movies, and piece them together like a jigsaw puzzle to create completely new music.
The following piece of creativity, composed using chords and vocal samples recorded from the original Alice In Wonderland Disney cartoons, is worth much more than the 1.5 million dollars spent for the Tim Burton's movie. No doubt about it.

It's produced by Polynoid, the design / storytelling loving collaboration of Jan Bitzer, Ilija Brunck, Csaba Letay, Fabian Pross and Tom Weber. Founded in 2007 as a creative platform and playground for their own films and experiments, Polynoid today is using that same spirit but combining it with the resources of a production studio, with such impressive results.

An everyday love story set in the not so distant future sees blackbirds battling with technology, automatic palm readers and power cuts.

Directed by Matthias Hoegg at the Royal College of Art, London, 2010 and nominated for a BAFTA for Short Animation.

POLYGONAL CUBISM

A century after synthetic cubism, which was the second main movement within cubism, Liam Brazier took it to the next level. He blended Braque and Picasso with some early nintees cgi, and that's the stunning result. Totally rad.

STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN

The hero of the last joint from the always amazing Animation Workshop is an old Viking named Biôrn, who is determined to reach Valhalla, the warrior's afterlife full of excessive drinking and debauchery. To gain entry he has to die honorably in battle, but he discovers that the right death isn't so easy.

OKTO-POWER

Oktapodi is a French computer-animated short film that originated as a Graduate Student Project from Gobelins L'Ecole de L'Image. The short is about a pair of love struck octopuses who through a series of comical events are separated and find each other. Oktapodi was directed by Julien Bocabeille, François-Xavier Chanioux, Olivier Delabarre, Thierry Marchand, Quentin Marmier, and Emud Mokhberi. Music composed by Kenny Wood.

Oktapodi had an Oscar nomination for best animated short in 2009. It defenitely should have won.
