OUT FROM THE BOX

We already knew it, some italians are genius. Although it's not common to find really inspired projects over there, mainly because many talented people left the country due to restrictions and awful laws. Said that, when you find something like the Milan based bunch Recipient, it's worth a hundred of other average "seen before" things. Their aim is to experiment the interctions between new technologies and new forms of art, with an eye on what could emerge from the collision of these two worlds.
The results are crazy cobinations like historical architechture being melted toghether with futuristic motion graphics through an unusual projection mapping session, or the analog world going digital in a pythagorean device (aka Rube Goldberg machine).
Stay hungry, stay foolish someone said... well we're sure these guys will.

The Pistolshrimp's projection below is inspired by the tarot, a set of cards used for games and fortune-telling. Commissioned in the 15th century, the Visconti-Sforza tarot deck is the first one to include major arcana and one of the oldest known to exist.

SUN-DRENCHED

After several dreamy singles and eps, Tycho finally dropped his masterpiece Dive, and the wait has been well worth it.
For getting his latest mix, though, neither waiting nor paying is required.

Tycho x Heathered Pearls - Dazed Mag Mix by Tycho

Tycho is the music project of San Francisco artist and producer Scott Hansen. As Tycho, Hansen blends swirling melodies into vaguely triumphant arcs that crisscross between stuttering beats and vocal samples, creating rolling sonic landscapes that extend into the horizon. Known in the design world as ISO50, Hansen is famed for his bucolic, sun-drenched design style, which serves as a backdrop and mirror for his musical output.

STAR-SPANGLED

Get some starlight and witness some quality slo-mo action from Orlando, where the 2012 NBA All Star week-end just took place.
Every year the All Star Game doesn't just entertain the entire world but it also gives us a good hint about who's probably going to rule the second part of the season and the playoffs. I think after last frustrating defeat in the finals it's finally the time to shine for Miami.

THE REDEEMER POV

In the last two years we have seen tons of tilt shift videos and pictures, and when something gets so quickly overused it also gets old really fast. Nonetheless checking out what's going on in Ipanema or Copacabana and than having a tour in the Rio de Janeiro carnival parade is quite an experience, especially when you do it from a god's point of view.

PLANET KIT

"Those Words" is the latest music video from the dark soundscapes of Paris based band KIT.
As it is all about retro futurism we are about love. The music perfectly and oddly fits on footages taken from "Wild Wild Planet" (original title: I Criminali della Galassia) a 1965 italian low-budget sci-fi movie directed by a Antonio Margheriti, a master of special effects and a real pioneer of the genre.
Closing gaps has never felt so nice.

THE MAGIC BEAN

Chicago has never been so wonderfully enlighted. Visual art masters Luftwerk managed to transform Millenium Park in a light reflection playground with an amazing interactive installation that bathes Cloud Gate and its surrounding plaza in a dynamic web of images and sounds.

I HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT

What about 55.000 led lights assembled together to form an unreal colorful cathedral?
That is named "Luminarie De Cagna" and it was recently built for the 2012 Light Festival in Ghent, Belgium.
The festival featured almost 30 exhibitions including a lot of projection mapping, fields of luminous flowers, and even a glowing phone booth aquarium. However, with its mystical and psychedelic appeal, the Luminarie De Cagna seems to have stolen the show.

ILLUMINATED MINDS

Luminokaya's visionary art is something you don't see everyday. His artworks are unbelievably powerful and universal masterpieces, passing from extremely deep fractals to misterious sciamanic landscapes with a rare soothing touch. An acute perception which knows no boundries: just put an airbrush in his hands and it will make no difference, magic will suddently start to happen.
You can grab canvases on his site or t-shirts and sweaters at Uggagula.com.

from the artist:

Art-project Luminokaya lab. appeared as a result of a huge amount of data coming from the great field of energy and information in forms of light and energy waves, visions, images, dream-state objects, trans personal visions and visions beyond personality, and also symbols, signs and channeling. The vast amount of information offered by The Space didn’t allow to ignore this exciting and rich experience.
My input was minimized to pressing the keyboard keys, and the awareness of infinity and abundance of the info-energy continuum can let me speak only about being a channel, or a medium. So, there can’t be any question of authorship.
Let this art-information be a little contribution to the process of uniting people of light and realizing our light-carrying potential!
For the benefit of all beings.

WHEN FALLING FEELS LIKE FLYING

Shook's latest work has just been reprinted! Available once again in a super fancy limited white 12" vinyl, which comes with a high quality full color sleeve with illustration by Cris Kuhlen. One of those things that should be on every real music lover's shelf.
"The Rise & Fall EP" finds Shook in a transitional mode, as the old school funk meets modern electro sound of The Glow has been refined and honed into something more mature, dramatic and powerful.

The Rise And Fall EP by Shook (Official)

In the contemporary musical landscape between the nu-boogie scene headed up by artists such as Dam Funk, and the French house disciples such as Breakbot, Shook is carving out a niche all of his own: A single-minded artist with a unique and unalterable musical vision.

You can get the 12" (whitch includes the digital version) from Bandcamp or you download it also from iTunes or Beatport.

ABOBO IS BACK !!

Those around 30 who back in the days had the chanche -and the luck- to put their tiny chubby hands on the first, epic, unforgettable episode of the Double Dragon serie on the NES they could never forget one intimidating big headed dude: Abobo. He was tough as nails, and he also had a lot of heart: even if you beat him badly he kept coming back as final boss or teaming up with other thugs. For many years to follow me and my fellow nerds we were using his name to refer to those rude older boys. Now you should understand how exited I am as i'm going to present probably the coolest game of all times: Abobo's Big Adventure.

The development of the game began way back in 2002 when Roger Barr set out to have Abobo fight his way through a variety of classic NES games in search of his lost son, Aboboy. Roger teamed up with a programmer who went by the name "Bane" at the time and they started putting the first levels together. Unfortunately, the Abobo game kept getting sidetracked due to each of them working on other game projects at the same time (including Domo-Kun's Angry Smashfest).

The Abobo project stayed on the backburner for years, but Roger always hoped to return to it eventually. He was lucky enough to meet Nick and Luis who both shared a love for classic 8-bit games and stuffing games full of ridiculous humor. After working on some other games like "Trick or Treat Adventure Quest" together, the three of them started to recreate the original Abobo game from scratch in 2006. Nick worked up a whole new game system, Pox recreated the existing graphics and Roger developed a big story for Abobo to really dive into... fists first. It was a daunting project, but like all labors of love, it's something that simply had to be done.

The trio have been working on this game for ages with one simple goal: make Abobo's Big Adventure the *ultimate* tribute to the Nintendo Entertainment System. This is the game that any kid who grew up on the NES always dreamed of playing and it goes beyond anything the system ever could've been capable of.

For those of you wondering if the game will be for sale, the answer is NO. Abobo's Big Adventure is simply a labor of love and will be available to play for free on the web. The game really pushes the limits of what Flash is capable of and you will soon have control of the most unappreciated, brutal, rage-fueled character in the entire pixelated universe in your hands.
